Happy holidays and (almost) new year!
I started The Spittoon with the assumption that I’d be the only one reading it. But for whatever the reason, over the last couple years, that has not been the case. Thank you for proving me wrong.
As we move into another year, things change. It’s a chance to hone in on what has and what hasn’t worked for us in the last 365 days. In my case, I’ve discovered just how important writing can be. I discovered how, at its best, writing a tool to process and present the world around us.
An outlet others can plug into.
You think I would have figured this out years ago.
Specifically, at this stage in my life, I’ve been gravitating more towards fiction. Non-fiction has it’s place, and I’m sure I’ll write more of it at some point, but for now I’m exploring the things imagination can provide that reality can’t.
So I’ll be shifting things around here at The Spittoon. As we’re spammed with never ending content from Facebook, and Twitter, and Instagram, and YouTube, I’ll be slowing things down. I’ll be focusing more on writing and publishing original fiction at a natural pace—a writer’s pace.
Quality over quantity.
As far as plans go, these are mine for the coming year:
Finish Still Life of Desert Animals - We are so close to completion! Only a handful more sections until Kurt’s story is resolved. If you haven’t had a chance to start (or are waiting for it all to be available before you binge it) don’t worry. I won’t be taking it down or putting up a paywall or anything like that for the foreseeable future.
Publish compelling short stories worth reading - I never want to be caught writing just for the sake of writing.
Maybe post a memoir or two — Never say never
Now before I leave you, I’d be remiss not to share my favorite posts from the year.
Life is an experiment, may your 2024 be full of stunning results.
